Ryan C. Brown — Nightlife
Ryan C. Brown’s paintings capture that fleeting, magical moment when the lampposts first glow to life. Just before darkness settles, their amber light flickers on, tracing the edges of pathways and spilling softly into quiet alleyways. Within this atmosphere, Ryan explores a compelling character study of evening dog walks and the rhythms of nightlife. His work is shaped by photographs he takes of the world around him, alongside a vast archive of film stills, found images, and references to other artworks. “I’m inspired by impressions of charged, evocative atmospheres,” Ryan explains. “Often they’re tied to hazy memories of places from my childhood.”
Nicholas J.R. White — The Binding of the Tide
In The Binding Tide, photographer Nicholas J.R. White turns attention from Barrow-in-Furness’s military-industrial past to its people, coastal landscapes, and ecosystems. Commissioned in 2025 by Signal Film and Media as a contemporary response to the Sankey Photography Archive, the series offers a fresh perspective on the town, moving beyond familiar narratives of decline and defence.
